Israel as a Start Up Nation
Thursday was a pretty laid back day. We started the day with a filling breakfast and promptly got on the bus to head to Tel Aviv for a quick 24 hour trip. After the drive, we arrived in Tel Aviv and got to walk around and experience the Serona Market. This market is fairly new and very trendy. We got to walk around for a bit and explore with the group. Along the way we learned about the history of the area. We ate lunch in the market, which was amazing because this market is filled with all of Israel's best restaurants. So many options!
After lunch, we headed to the Birthright Entrepreneurial Center. They opened yesterday and we were the very first group to get a tour! We learned all about Israel's tech innovations and achievements in the world of start-ups. A few facts we learned were: Israel has the most college graduates per capita, they have the most start-ups in the world (only second to Silicon Valley), and Viber was started in Israel - so we can come here and communicate with all of you back home!
After a much needed coffee break, we learned about Israeli independence at the Independence House. We had a lively speaker who made the experience interesting and fun.
Finally, we head back to our hotel to get ready for dinner. Dinner was succeeded by going out for a night in the flea market. As young 20 somethings, going out with locals and seeing the night life helped us to envision everyday life for young adults in Israel. We concluded the night with bonding on the hotel roof.
