Day 6: Heading North
Our day started with an intense, emotional trip to Yad Vashem, which is the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem. Our, Swedish-born, Israeli tour guide began our tour with the history leading up to the Shoa and highlighted personal stories and accounts of victims. As we walked through the singular triangular coordinator, we experienced various stages of Hitler's campaign.
At the end of the museum, we entered the hall of names where they have cataloged over four million Jews killed in the Holocaust. As we exited the corridor opens up to a beautiful view of the hills of Jerusalem proclaiming our modern day homeland. After a pizza lunch, we continued to the Children's Museum where we explored the "Invitation to Silence" exhibit. We got to experience the daily lives of individuals with hearing impairment and how to use body language, eye contact and facial expressions to communication. The tour, lead by people who are deaf, was a fantastic way to end our time in Jerusalem.
We then boarded the bus for our trip up north to the Galilee where we are now staying at Kibbutz Nofey Gonen. After settling in, we enjoyed an evening bonfire where we sang songs and roasted marshmallows.
Tomorrow, we will tour Tzfat.
