No Mountain High, No River Low
Today the adventure began! We started our day with a traditional Israeli breakfast, including fresh veggies and our first encounter with Turkish coffee. Next, we drove to our first hike, at Tel Dan. Surrounded by trees, we walked over the rocks hovering the flowing water and took many pictures with the beautiful view. We also learned about the historical significance of the ancient city that existed there many years ago.
Next, we went to cool off in rafts and kayaks in the Jordan River. Over the course of an hour and a half, participants got a feel for Israeli life while passing families, tourists and teenagers enjoying the cool water. After, we were all hungry for more things Israel, so an authentic Israeli lunch filled with falafel, shawarma and hummus was devoured by all. Finally, before heading back to the Kibbutz, we drove to Mount Bental, where we learned about Israel's neighboring counties while looking out over the borders of Syria and Lebanon.
After another delicious Kibbutz-style dinner, everyone met for the final group activity of the day. In small groups, we discussed our first impressions of the trip and got to know each other even better.
Overall, a great day filled with learning, beautiful views and drinking TONS of water.
