Day One In Israel
Today was our first day in Israel, and Shorashim Bus 358 is already a big, happy, disfunctional family. First thing in the morning, we all had a delicious Israeli breakfast, complete with olives and cats watching us at the window. Then, we all packed ourselves into our lovely bus and drove to the Golan Heights for a hike.
In the Zavitan, we had a shehechiyanu ceremony and got to know each other and what we all hoped to gain from this trip. We hiked to a natural pool and took lots of pictures.
We stopped for lunch in Katzrin and ate some delicious falafel and shawarma. Next, we then went to Mount Bental to see the Golan Heights and the Israel-syria border, and we learned about the significance of the Golan Heights and how it contains the only freshwater lake in the Middle East, the kinneret, making it a very desirable piece of land for all countries bordering Israel. After this, we went rafting on the Jordan River. Although it was a lazy river, some people in our group were determined to make everything into a competition and the determined winners of the race were very happy.
This day will be very hard to beat, but Bus 358 is excited to see what Shorashim holds in store for us tomorrow!
