Our Last Day
Today was sadly our last full day in Israel. We drove to Chicago's sister city Kiryat Gat and learned about their community and volunteered. We got our hands dirty by mixing mud together and using it to build Ethiopian huts.
It was a very rewarding experience and many of us hope to come back to volunteer again in the future. We then drove to Ben Yehuda Street in Jerusalem for lunch and last minute souvenier shopping. Afterwards, we went to Har Herzl, Israel's cemetery for fallen soldiers. It was a very solemn experience and we got a greater feeling of what it means to be an Israeli and an IDF soldier.
We had a great last dinner all together and met up for our closing activity. We all spoke about our favorite parts of the trip and what we are taking away from the trip. We are sad to go back home tomorrow, but what we experienced together will forever stay with us. It will be extremely difficult to say goodbye to our Israeli friends, but our friendships willl last a lifetime. This trip was truly a life changing event for us all.
