Tzfat, Mt. Bental, and the Golan Heights | Shorashim - Israel with Israelis

Tzfat, Mt. Bental, and the Golan Heights

Waking up bright and early, we left the city of Jerusalem to head up north to visit another of Israel's holy cities, Tzfat. Tzfat's mystical vibes were enhanced with a visit with Avraham, a kabbalist painter and resident of the city. We learned all about the awesome aspects of kabbalah, and admired his beautiful paintings rich with kabbalist imagery and themes.

From there, we ventured to the Ha-Ari synagogue, which was very beautiful. Who knew that Lecha Dodi could have so many tunes?! From there, it was onto the famous candle shop, and then to lunch. The wandering alleyways of the old city definitely gave off a special feeling.

From Tzfat, it was a drive north to Mount Bental, where we were able to see Lebanon and Syria. The lookout point allows you to see for miles and miles, and the view is stunning. We learned about a portion of Israel's wars, like the 1967 War and the Yom Kippur War, which gave us an appreciation for the sacrifices of Israeli society. We are now at the beautiful Kibbutz Afik, about to take in a Shabbat in the Golan Heights. L'hitraot!
